Recently, we delivered a wood pallet block machine to a famous timber company in Chile. The company has long been focusing on the production of environmentally friendly wood products, relying on rich local forestry resources, and is committed to providing high standard pallet solutions for the South American fresh food export industry.

Customer background and demand analysis

Relying on the rich pine and eucalyptus forest resources in South America, the customer’s company has been providing standardized wooden pallets for fresh food export enterprises for a long time.

In recent years, the global fresh food trade volume has been surging (the annual export volume of Chilean cherries exceeds 350,000 tons), coupled with the mandatory implementation of FSC sustainable packaging certification in the European Union and North American market, the traditional pallet production method is facing a double challenge:

  • 20%-30% of sawdust and trimmings in wood processing cannot be effectively utilized, and the annual waste accumulation exceeds 1,500 cubic meters.
  • Uneven density of handmade pallet blocks makes it difficult to pass the IPPC-ISPM15 international heat treatment standard, limiting export competitiveness.
  • Seasonal fluctuations in demand for fresh food cold chain packaging are significant, and labor production costs remain high.

Technical examination of wood pallet block machine

  • Convert shredded wood into standardized pallet blocks with a density of 550-1000 kg/m3, and the compressive strength needs to be up to 8 tons/square meter.
  • Support 80 * 80mm to 145mm customized size switching, to adapt to the cherry, blueberry and other different specifications of the load-bearing needs of the box.
  • A single operator can synchronize the control of 3 sets of wood pallet block machines, the average daily output exceeds 5000 pieces.
  • The production process needs to be built-in temperature and humidity monitoring system, automatically generate FSC raw material traceability report.

This project has set a benchmark for the circular economy for forestry processing in South America. In the future, agricultural wastes such as coffee husks and grape vines can be incorporated into the raw material system, further expanding Chile‘s influence in the field of sustainable packaging.
